Folder mode: every todo.md in a monorepo on one board
A monorepo usually means more than one todo.md: one per package, one per app, sometimes one per team. Each file is fine on its own, but "what is the whole repo working on right now" means opening every file in turn and holding the picture in your head. NoteThink's Folder mode does that merge for you.
What it does
Switch a NoteThink panel from Current file to Folder in its toolbar, and it:
- Loads every
*.mdfile under the active file's folder (narrow the set with the include/exclude filters in the Files drawer -**/{todo,done}.md, say, to pick up only story boards) - Walks each file's headings: a
###heading becomes a story, a##heading above it becomes the epic that stamps its children - Merges every file's stories into one synthetic board
- Picks a single view type by majority vote across the files' own
nt_viewlinetags, so a folder of mostly-Kanban files opens as Kanban even if one file happens to be untagged - Renders one view, one toolbar, one breadcrumb - as if the whole folder were a single file
Each story keeps a small origin pill showing the file (and epic, if any) it came from. Click the pill to open that file at the story's exact location. Drag a card, or tick a checkbox, and the edit writes to the correct origin file - the merged board is a presentation layer over your real files, not a copy of them.
Keeping history from swamping the board
A long-lived done.md can accumulate hundreds of completed stories. Folder mode caps how many top-level stories it pulls from each file - 10 by default, adjustable per view - so a handful of stale files can't bury the active work from everyone else's todo.md. An order linetag on the file root tells NoteThink which end of the file holds the newest entries (todo.md files default to newest-at-top; a done.md that appends newest-at-bottom just needs order=newest-at-bottom on its # heading), so the cap always keeps the stories that actually matter right now.
The breadcrumb narrows, it doesn't reset
In Folder mode the breadcrumb's path segments represent the aggregated folder, not any single file - click a segment to narrow the aggregation to that subfolder, or click an epic name to scope the view to just that epic's stories across every contributing file.
Try it
This very workspace's docstech/users/<name>/todo.md convention - one board per developer, each tracking several projects - is exactly the shape Folder mode was built for. Install NoteThink, open a folder with more than one markdown board in it, and switch to Folder mode to see them merge into one.
